What is a Leucistic axolotl?
The classic 'pink axolotl' you see on the internet. Pale pinkish-white body, black eyes, and vivid pink-red gills. Most popular morph by far. About 80% of axolotls sold online.
Morph-specific care
Standard care. Their pale color shows water quality issues fastest, which is actually a plus for beginners. Faded gills usually mean water problems.
Typical price
Expect $25 to $75 from a reputable breeder. Pet store prices are often double for the same animal with worse genetics. See the buying guide for what to look for.
Is this morph right for you?
- Rarity: common. Available from most breeders nationwide.
- First axolotl? Yes, ideal first morph.
- Care difficulty: The same as any axolotl. Water temperature, filtration, and food rules don't change by morph.
Read the complete beginner setup guide before ordering any axolotl. Tank cycling takes four to six weeks and must happen before your axolotl arrives.
